Patience is the shittiest time machine
If you have a tolerance for spicy food, that opens you up to a whole genre of flavors that you couldn't enjoy otherwise
I think there's a few parallels there with music. If you can handle cheese/campiness, or screaming/growling, or lo-fi, or 'girly' music, that opens you up to genuinely enjoy lots of things you couldn't otherwise.
